Acetone

Acetone is a proven solvent for cleaning and degreasing in the field of fiber-reinforced composites, especially during the processing of epoxy resin, polyester resin, or polyurethane systems. It reliably removes fresh resin residues from tools, rollers, brushes, or mixing containers, and prepares surfaces like metal, plastic, or GFRP substrates for further processing. In boat building, model making, and laminating work, acetone is used both as a tool cleaner and for surface degreasing and pre-treatment.

Acetone – Effective cleaner for resin systems and composite materials

Acetone cleaning and degreasing agent

Acetone is a solvent and is usually used to clean tools from resin, that has not yet dried completely. Furthermore it is often used for degreasing surfaces (e.g. fibre glass or carbon fibre).

Why is acetone such a versatile cleaner?

Acetone is valued for its high solvency, fast evaporation, and residue-free processing. It is ideal for degreasing glass fiber fabrics, cleaning laminating tools, and removing fresh resin residues – whether during the processing of GFRP molds, carbon fiber components, or epoxy-based mold making. As a resin solvent, it can be applied efficiently using a cloth or brush without leaving additional additives or residues. Especially on non-absorbent surfaces like aluminum or ABS, acetone pre-treatment is critical for adhesion optimization.

What advantages does acetone offer in composite processing?

In composite manufacturing, acetone is an indispensable auxiliary material: it helps reduce processing errors through clean tools, enhances the adhesion of resin systems, and saves time during surface preparation. It removes release agent residues, dust, or grease, which is especially useful when laminating, filling, or painting. Its fast drying allows work to continue quickly without unnecessary delays. Whether used as a degreaser for GFRP, a cleaner for epoxy resin residues, or for cleaning spray guns, Acetone HP-AC meets the highest demands in both professional and DIY settings.

Where is acetone used in the composite sector?

Acetone HP-AC is used in a wide range of composite applications – from GFRP repairs and boat building to mold maintenance and model production. It is particularly suitable for surface preparation before bonding, removing release agents from models, and cleaning laminating tools after use. It is also commonly used to degrease CFRP components and to clean spray equipment and rollers after resin work. Thanks to its material compatibility and short drying time, it is ideal wherever cleanliness and surface adhesion are essential – especially in both repair and new build projects for industrial or private use.
