MTI® - hose
The MTI® line is a membrane-wrapped vacuum line used in vacuum infusion processes to ensure controlled air extraction. The special membrane is permeable to air and gases, but impermeable to resin systems, preventing unwanted resin flow into the vacuum line. This separation guides the resin flow exclusively through the fiber reinforcement, resulting in a reproducible and void-free laminate structure.
Line for controlled venting in vacuum infusion processes
How does the MTI® line function in vacuum setups?
The MTI® line (Membrane Tube Infusion) is a specialized vacuum extraction tube with a membrane that allows gases to escape while blocking resin intrusion. It is placed as a ring line along the mold perimeter in the vacuum setup. As the resin is infused, it does not enter the MTI® line directly but continues to flow through the wet-out reinforcement. The membrane barrier ensures precise resin distribution, avoiding resin-rich zones and helping maintain consistent laminate quality across the part.
What are the benefits of MTI® technology?
Using the MTI® vacuum line can help improve laminate quality by significantly reducing air entrapment and eliminating the need for resin catch pots. The system enables a free resin flow path and simplifies process calculations. Its ability to minimize dry spots and enable uniform fiber impregnation leads to better process stability. The MTI® line also helps manage fiber volume content by controlling the amount of resin infiltrated into the part – essential for structural components in composite manufacturing.
What MTI® line variant is offered by HP-Textiles?
HP-Textiles offers the MTI® line HP‑MTI‑08, which features an inner diameter of 8 mm and outer diameter of 15 mm. It is rated for use up to 80 °C and is compatible with standard epoxy and polyester resin systems. The extraction volume is < 50 l/m at 50 mbar pressure. As a component of vacuum consumables, it can be combined with perforated film, vacuum bagging film, or bleeder cloth, depending on the infusion setup. The MTI® line is available in custom lengths and ensures a clean, reliable vacuum process.
In which applications is the MTI® line used?
The MTI® technology is commonly applied in fiber-reinforced composite production, especially in lightweight construction, mold making, prototype development, and series production. It is suitable for CFRP and GFRP parts requiring precise resin flow control and high process reliability. The MTI® line is particularly useful for complex part geometries where conventional resin flow strategies may be insufficient. As a reliable solution for vacuum infusion, it helps achieve void-free, high-quality laminates and integrates seamlessly into existing vacuum setups.
