Non-woven absorber / Bleeder
Polyester breather fabric for controlled resin absorption in vacuum infusion
What are the characteristics of polyester breather fabric?
Polyester breather fabric is a nonwoven, drapable polyester fleece used as a consumable layer in vacuum infusion systems. It is designed to absorb excess resin during the infusion process and is placed above the laminate. Its open-pore structure promotes a uniform distribution of resin across the part surface and helps prevent localized resin pooling. Thanks to its flexible structure, it is suitable for various geometries and can be combined with other vacuum process materials. The fabric is made from pure PET fibers and can be cut and shaped according to the specific application.
Which product variants are available?
HP-Textiles offers polyester breather fabric in two basis weights:
The HP-VP80P with 80 g/m² is suited for applications requiring lower resin absorption, such as smaller parts or more delicate structures. The HP-VP150P with 150 g/m² offers a higher material density and is designed for larger resin volumes. Both versions are compatible with vacuum infusion setups and are designed for use with materials such as perforated film, bleeder cloth, or vacuum bagging film. The upward resin transport ensures a clean surface finish in the laminate build-up.
How is polyester breather fabric used in the process?
In vacuum infusion, polyester breather fabric is placed as the topmost layer above the perforated film. During resin injection, it absorbs excess resin and prevents resin accumulation within the upper layers of consumables. This defined separation between laminate and excess resin contributes to improved surface quality and consistent process stability. When used alongside other vacuum consumables, it enables a structured laminate build-up suitable for the production of fiber-reinforced composite parts. Its open fiber structure supports a uniform resin flow on the surface of the component.
In which applications is polyester breather fabric used?
Polyester breather fabric is applied in vacuum infusion processes within the field of composite manufacturing. Common application areas include mold making, lightweight construction with GFRP or CFRP, and industrial series or prototype production. As a consumable layer, the material helps to control resin absorption during infusion. Depending on the part’s requirements, users can choose between the 80 g/m² or 150 g/m² variant. Both product types are available via the dedicated polyester breather fabric category page in the HP-Textiles online shop.
