Thinner
Thinners – Solvents for resin systems and coatings
Why are thinners so important in composite processing?
Thinners ensure clean tool maintenance, make it easier to clean brushes, rollers, and molds, and help to maintain overall part quality. In composite manufacturing, they are used to adjust resin systems or coatings, remove fresh resin residues, and optimally prepare surfaces for further processing. Especially for GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastics) and CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) components, thorough pre-treatment is crucial to avoid adhesion problems and to create long-lasting laminate structures.
Which types of thinners are available?
At the HP-Textiles online shop, two specially developed products are available:
-
The XB Thinner is a high-performance solvent based on xylene-butanol, ideally suited for the dilution of epoxy resins, epoxy primers, as well as for use as a cleaning agent for tools and molds. With its strong solvent power, it effectively removes resin residues and ensures efficient processing.
-
The IMC-X Thinner is specifically designed for polyurethane coatings and in-mould coating (IMC) applications. It is color-neutral, has strong solvent properties, and is used as a spray thinner or cleaning solvent. Perfect for industrial coatings and applications that require a smooth and uniform surface quality.
Typical applications of thinners
Our thinners are used in a wide range of applications: from cleaning lamination tools, through surface preparation of GRP and CFRP parts, to the dilution of epoxy resin systems or PU coatings. In boat building, model making, automotive manufacturing, construction chemistry, and industrial mass production, they are indispensable for ensuring clean processes and reproducible results. Thanks to their fast evaporation and residue-free performance, our thinners make a decisive contribution to process reliability and surface quality in composite processing.
